We were asked to explain the challenges faced by young disabled people when entering the workplace and to show the impact of Scope’s ‘First Impressions, First Experiences’ pre-employment training course on both the young people and the employer.
What we did
The first thing we did was to find out what effect the programme had on the young people as well as seeing how it had changed the attitude of employers to having disabled people as part of their workforce. This research told us that young disabled people were empowered as a result of this programme and that employers were encouraged by their superior capabilities. With this insight in mind, we decided a documentary approach would be the way to go, with both parties talking genuinely about the effect the experience has had on them – ultimately promoting the programme and inspiring others to take part.
