The Strategy
The IMechE is the UK’s qualifying body for Mechanical Engineers and has been established for over 150 years.
The IMechE chose video production as a method to promote engineering in the UK, in order to build relationships with students who may be considering engineering as a career.
To produce a series of four films that reached into the hearts and minds of real engineers, each at different stages of their careers. These films were the key to inspiring students to look deeper into the information available on the IMechE’s Engeneration web portal, such as careers advice and supporting learning materials. The overall aim was to provide the inspiration behind the work of an engineer and to educate students on the broad range of possibilities that engineering has to offer.
To follow four young engineers in very different industries, from Aviation, Medicine & Health, Steel Manufacturing and Commuter Transport on the London Underground. Engineers were carefully selected from different backgrounds, to illustrate the various routes to becoming an engineer.
In order to engage with the audience, we chose to develop very human and inspirational narratives, each concentrating on a specific engineering problem. The films follow the engineers as they work toward their solution, whilst taking the audience on a journey, allowing them too to think through certain issues and consider how they might do things.
